Newbie Needs Help?

hi i have just bought my first galaxy and after traveling 210 miles to bring it home i have a few problems??

its a 1997 tdi ghia x manual

1 main problem is the glow plug light flashes evey couple of minuites but when you press the brake it goes of then keeps comming back?? (after 210 mile it get annoying but as i say goes away when pressing the brake)

2 it seem very sluggish as if the turbo is not working but i have noticed some vacuum pipes are perrished (is there any way to tell if its working?)

3 cruise control does not work (this is a must for me?)

4 the light on the dash says the passanger door is open even with no key in and all the interior lights do not come on with any door open?

5 central locking not working apart from the fuel filler and no alarm or remote function (you can hear the motor in the drivers door but no other)

 

will probably find more when i look further?

any help or advise is greatfully received.

(do any members live near redcar in the north east who are technicly minded??)

Hi Mark

and welcome to the site

Think you will need to invest in a VAG-COM lead then you can diagnose most of the faults yourself.

Your central locking maybe the locking ecu under the passanger seat.That also controls the interior lights and alarm.Mine did the same till i replaced it.Door could be down to a faulty door switch.If you have perrished pipework,that wont help things. Not having a diesel myself cant help you with the others but there are plenty of chaps on here that can! You;ve come to the right place!

Thats whats happend to mine, looked like it had been in the canal 10 years.Even tho when i checked it was dry in that footwell,but there again its been no rain for 2 weeks plus here.

probably dodgy brake switch....easliy replaced.

You will need to renew the pipewprk.

It won't work if your brake ( or clutch ) switch is faulty.

Either dodgy door switch or broken wiring in door gaiter....very common....probably on drivers door and tailgate as well.

Could just be down to broken wiring in the doors....remove gaiters and have a look.

 

 

As mentioned previously VagCom is a cheap investment and will help you with nearly all these issues.

Update

cenrtal locking and interior lights now working fine but only from the doors not remote?

followed instructions to reprogram the key but cant get the control light to come on even changed the batteries in the fob but still nothing.

any one have any ideas??

also think i have sorted the glowplug light but now have a nother big problem (see my other post on steering rack)mark

ive got all the test gear for gals sharans etc now then your in kuck as i may be going to redcar next week to get ecu checked so if need be ill give your motor a once over and reset stuff for you. im only up in sunderland
